The Trainers at US Outdoor First Aid are committed to effectively teaching the
important concepts related to First Aid.
Our goal is for graduates of our classes to confidently and competently be able to respond to a First Aid emergency.
First Aid skill competence is achieved by using the EDGE method of teaching.
E = Explain the specific “what, why and how” of a First Aid skill so our class
participants can understand the concept.
D = Demonstrate the skill so class participants can begin to get a “feel” for how to
complete a skill.
G = Guide the class participant in completing the hands-on skill themselves.
E = Empower the class participant to get proficient at the skill so they can
confidently and competently complete the skill themselves.
Competence leads to confidence when applying First Aid skills. We are very
excited to report that we have had multiple instances of our class graduates
competently using the First Aid skills they learned at a US Outdoor First Aid
training class.
The Wilderness First Aid - 16 Hour Course provides training in advanced first aid knowledge and practical hands-on skills to use in outdoor situations where definitive medical care is hours or even days away.
This course specifically meets the Wilderness First Aid training requirements of the Boy Scouts of America for participation in "high adventure" activities such as Philmont Scout Ranch, Sea Base and Northern Tier treks.
Successfully completing this course will earn the participant a two-year certification in Wilderness First Aid and CPR/AED.
Sample Topics Included in the Course:
This course utilizes a lot of hands-on scenario-based training so the participant can learn the concepts more readily.
A person can bleed to death in 1 to 5 minutes if an artery is severed.
Stop the Bleed training is designed to teach anyone how to confidently deal with a severe bleeding situation.
This course was developed to train people how to save lives in a mass shooting event before EMS help arrives.
The knowledge in this course can also be used at home, work, recreation or anywhere that severe bleeding may occur.
In this course the student will learn the basics of First Aid when EMS or medical care is readily available.
These skills are great to have for use in emergencies around home or community.
Topics Included in the Course:
These are particularly great skills to possess for just "every day" life when emergency situations might occur.
Successfully completing this course will earn the participant a two-year certification in Basic First Aid/CPR/AED.
In this course the participant will delve more in depth on topics taught in the Basic First Aid/CPR/AED.
It is recommended that people considering this course already have a good understanding of Basic First Aid/CPR/AED.
Successfully completing this course will earn the participant a two-year certification in Advanced First Aid/CPR/AED.
This course is focused solely on learning CPR and AED skills handling choking situations for adults, children and infants.
This course is fairly simple to understand but the investment in time can result in a real life-saving return.
When paired with the Stop the Bleed training it is a very powerful skill set to have when you are out and about with family and at school events.
Basic CPR/AED, Choking First Aid and Stop the Bleed are very effective life-saving skills. People who are "on the scene" are in a great position to immediately implement these critical life-saving steps.
Anyone capable of helping other people should know these skills.
Successfully completing this course will earn the participant a two-year certification in CPR/AED.
